For an automobile in its time, the Chevrolet Corvair truly had a unique engine mounted at the rear and air-cooled. It came in varieties ranging from coupe to sedan, convertible, and even station wagon body styles.

The Ford Mustang came out in April 1964 and, within minutes of its launch, raised pompous applause, generally credited with creating the "pony car" class or American muscle. This car turned out to be an overnight sensation—more than a million units were sold within the first two years.

Another consistent best seller during the 1960s was the Ford Galaxie, noted for its powerful engines and sleek styling. It was offered in a myriad of body styles, including sedans, hardtops, convertibles, and station wagons.
