The exterior of the Mahindra Thar 5-door is going to undergo some dramatic changes. Some of the main highlights are:
Grille and Headlights: New grill with an H-pattern; circular LED DRLs like what you see in the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon
Sunroof: While the 3-door variant gets removable hard and soft tops, the 5-door variant will get a single-pane sunroof.
Wheels and Bumpers: It will come with 18-inch alloy wheels and a hard plastic front bumper.
Dimensions: The 5-door variant seems huge, offering superb road presence, dwarfing most other cars, including the Hyundai Alcazar.
The Thar 5-door attempts to give more comfort and modern features from within:
Dashboard and Infotainment: New dash layout with free-standing 10.25-inch infotainment featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Seating and Upholstery: The new seat upholstery will be black and brown-coloured leather for a more premium feel. Other features like the centre armrest along with more storage spaces have been provided.

Mahindra Thar 5-door is said to share engines with the Scorpio-N, which are:
Petrol Engine: The 2.0-litre, petrol mill that churns out 200 bhp and 370 Nm of torque.
Diesel Engine: A 2.2-litre diesel producing 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque.
Transmission Options: Both engines will be available with manual and automatic transmission options.
The Thar 5-door will keep safety and off-road capabilities in mind:
Safety Features: It will have six airbags, hill assist, hill descent control, traction control, and disc brakes for all wheels.
Off-Road Features: The limited-slip differential comes in handy, and the build quality is still quite bombproof for it to be a capable off-roader.
The Thar 5-door could be priced starting from Rs. 16-18 lakh (ex-showroom). Rivals will include the Maruti Jimny and the upcoming 5-door Force Gurkha.
